Preschool and primary school

ISCHIA PRIMO CIRCOLO is in Ischia Island, Southern Italy, on the bay of Naples. It includes a preschool and a primary school.

It welcomes a school population of about 800 students, aged from 3 to 10, with 65 teachers and 20 school staff, including primary school and nursery school. There are some immigrants that come from all over the world and some pupils with special needs that have the support of special education teachers and teaching materials suitable.

Our pedagogical aims are: to offer pupils possibility to get knowledge and action in order to increase abilities and competences; to increase the use of different languages; to increase the motivation to learn; to contextualize knowledge; to stimulate the development of capacity, the upgrading of everyone's skills and competencies; to convey a unified vision of knowledge.

The Ischia's island is a place where the presence of people from other countries is increasing. It is also an island whose economy is essentially based on tourism. The school for which we work has as goal: “Making the school a community, a place of innovation, cultural and relational aggregation for families, associations and local institutions”. This means the acceptance, integration in training experience and innovation to promote the full grow up of future man and citizen. Ischia is one of the famous islands in the south of Italy and it is a historical site inhabited since the Ancient Phoenicians. The tradition and the culture of our area are significant. Like most countries of Europe, Ischia welcomes people from different European and other countries, who move to our island to find a better way of living. So our school is gradually becoming a multicultural school: there are pupils who come from India, Morocco, Brazil, Cuba, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Poland, Albania, Russia, and others; in addition - the children born from mixed marriages.

Our school has been an accredited centre for the Trinity examination (Grade 1 and Grade 2) since 2012.

Furthermore fifth classes participate to the British Kangaroo examination each year. Our school takes part in the project “At school without backpack” - a new way to work and to stay at school, both for children and for teachers. The “without backpack” project is a research action for effective learning. This project is based on new methodologies that structure learning environments, participatory, open to dialogue and forms of relatedness peer education, critical and reflective analysis of the activity, a good deal of experimentation through authentic tasks.

Educational law, computer literacy, nutrition education and Youth games complete the school training plan. The nutrition education project aims to educate to proper nutrition, to acquire sensitive lifestyles and eat properly, to improve our health through healthy eating. Education law is a project that involves all classes of the school with particular reference to classes 4 and 5. It is related to the project Youth Games because its aim is the compliance with the rules from small groups to extended communities. With this project we call into question all law enforcement in the area of Ischia for a direct involvement of the students to the social and legal community. The aims of the legality project are: prevent bullying, educate for tolerance and acceptance and develop an appropriate behaviour in the students, even through the knowledge of the Italian legislation.
